FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - August 13, 2024
WELLINGTON NORTH – The Township of Wellington North is pleased to invite the public to join us in celebrating the installation of our first two Pedestrian Crossovers and the completion of Smith Street Reconstruction on Thursday, September 19, 2024. These projects are part of our ongoing commitment to enhance the safety and accessibility of our roads and sidewalks for all users.
The Pedestrian Crossovers are located at Main Street North at Durham Street in Mount Forest (see Figure 1), and Smith Street at Conestoga Street in Arthur (see Figure 2). Pedestrian Crossovers are designed to allow pedestrians to cross the road safely at a controlled crossing by activating the flashing lights to alert drivers to stop and yield. The crossovers also feature accessible push buttons and audible signals. The crossovers are the first of their kind in Wellington North and will improve the connectivity and walkability of our downtown areas. To learn more about how to use Pedestrian Crossovers please visit our website at https://www.wellington-north.com/services/transportation-services/pedes….
The Smith Street Reconstruction Project involved the rehabilitation of the roadway asphalt surface, curb and sidewalk, accessible sidewalk ramps, replacement and/or installation of sanitary and water services at select locations, and pavement markings along Smith Street between Conestoga Street and Wells Street in Arthur. The project was funded by the Ministry of Transportation's Connecting Links program, which supports municipalities in maintaining and improving roads and bridges that connect two ends of a provincial highway through a community.
