Media Release: Wellington North Council recognizes local athletes at June 24 Council Meeting

Mount Forest Rams U11 Rep, Arthur Vipers U18, Kieran Romanowski and Kennedy Ray recognized by Council for their achievements on June 24

WELLINGTON NORTH – Wellington North Council hosted its second Recognition of Outstanding Achievement in Sports Night on Monday, June 24 at the Council Chambers in Kenilworth.

Two teams and two individual athletes were recognized by Council for their accomplishments during their respective sports season.

Mount Forest Rams U11 Rep

The Mount Forest Rams U11 Rep team captured the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) Tier 2 Championship at the end of March, defeating the Mid-Huron Huskies in the Championship Game. Locally, the Rams finished the playoff round robin with a 7-1 record and were finalists in the WOAA Gregg Championship Division. The U11 Rams also won the Twin Centre Rep Classic Tournament, and won silver at the Regional Silver Stick Tournament in Wingham.

Team members include Beckett Van Huss, Corbin Holliday, Clark Ferguson, Jack McDonald, Colby Cummings, Colby Love, Brennan Fairbrother, Hunter Sinnamon, Deacon Morton, Easton Miles, Noah McDonald, Tyler Scott, Cooper Lantz, Griffin Gagnon, Head Coach Tristan Miles, Assistant Coaches Jason Cummings and Shawn Sinnamon, Trainer Shawn Fairbrother, and Team Manager Lindsay Scott.

Arthur Vipers U18

The Arthur Vipers U18 team had a season to remember in 2023-24, going undefeated in the regular season and playoffs. In tournament play, the U18 Vipers won the U18 Regional Silver Stick in Collingwood in December 2023, and their home tournament in February 2024. At International Silver Stick in January, the U18 Vipers won the silver medal. In league play, the U18 Vipers won the WOAA Elite Division for the third consecutive season.

Off the ice, the team hosted a community night to raise money and non-perishable food donations for the Arthur Lions Club’s Christmas Hamper Program, and team captain Connor Schmidt volunteered his time to help coach the U9 and U11 Vipers.

Team members include Dexter Warnaar, Braeden van Dongen, Michael Pfanner, Evan McDougall, Hudson Karn, Tanner Moynihan, Conner Schmidt, Ethan Waram, Simon Livingston, Parker Coffey, Owen McDougall, Jessy Lamont, Nolan Oude Voshaar, Kian Hope, Izaiah Boles, Mathew Deschenes, Adam Krul, Joel Hasson, Nathan Hasson, Ryan Rooney and Wyatt Schill.

Kieran Romanowski

Kieran Romanowski is a 12-year-old Mount Forest resident who has been training for several years at Rise Combat and Fitness in Mount Forest. In the sport of kickboxing, Kieran has proven to be one of the best at his age.

During the 2024 World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) National Championships in Niagara Falls, Kieran competed against 500 other competitors. By the time the event was completed, Kieran won all his fights and was crowned the National Champion in his category.

In addition to his training, Kieran also assists with training the rookie competitors at Rise Combat and Fitness under the guidance of Dave Reeves.

Kennedy Ray

Kennedy Ray is a 12-year-old Mount Forest resident who has been kickboxing since 2021 at Rise Combat and Fitness in Mount Forest. She is quickly making a name of herself in the sport of kickboxing. In 2023, Kennedy won the provincial championship in her division, and in 2024 she won the bronze medal at the WAKO National Championships in April, defeating nearly 600 other competitors for the honour.

In addition to her training, she assists with training the rookie competitors at Rise Combat and Fitness under the guidance of Dave Reeves.

Dave Reeves credited Kieran and Kennedy’s success to their work ethic, dedication and determination. “They are tremendous athletes and great leaders,” he said. “They should be proud of everything they have accomplished.”
